Der Engl im Laufe der Zeit

 

Im Jahr 1900 kaufte mein Urgroßvater Alois Teufl den Gasthof, der damals noch „Goldene Gans“ hieß und benannte ihn um in „Gasthaus Engl“, mit dem Zusatz: „Besitzer Teufl“.

 

Nach Alois Teufls Tod wurde der Betrieb verpachtet und dann ab 1959 selbst von seiner jüngsten Tochter Hildegard Tutz geb. Teufl als Gasthaus bewirtschaftet.

 

Nach dem meine Großmutter 1975 in Pension ging, übernahmen meine Eltern, Waltraud (geb. Tutz) und Peter Gaßner den Betrieb und bauten über mehrere Jahre hinweg den Engl immer wieder um und erwarben ausserdem mehrere (baufällige) Häuser in unmittelbarer Umgebung des Hotels. Mein Vater verbrachte sein gesamtes Leben mit dem Renovieren und - sofern möglich - Neubauen dieser Häuser - ohne sein strebsames und unermüdliches Arbeiten und den enormen Fleiß sowie dem Durchhaltevermögen beider Elternteile wäre dies niemals erreichbar gewesen.

 

Ein weiterer großer Umbau im Jahr 2000/01 schuf Platz für einen Lift und ein weiters Stockwerk.

 

2006 übernahmen mein Mann Christian Hofer und ich, Christine Gaßner, den Engl. Durch die sich sehr stark veränderten äußeren Bedingungen führen wir den Betrieb nun nicht mehr als Gasthof mit Restaurant, sondern als Hotel Garni. 

 

Wir bauten das weiße Haus Innstrasse 89 und die Tiefgarage. Die Arbeit im und mit dem Engl und unsere 4 Kinder halten uns permanent auf Trab. Die Covidpandemie, die schwierige Personalsuche und der plötzliche Tod meines Vaters Peter Gassner am 19. Juli 2022 stellten/stellen uns immer wieder vor sehr große Herausforderungen. 

Unser Leben ist alles außer langweilig.

 

 

The Engl History

 

In the year 1900 my great grandfather Alois Teufl bought the Gasthof that’s name had been „Golden Goose“ back then, and named it into „Gastaus Engl „with adding: Owner Teufl (meaning Owner Devil).

 

After Alois Teufl died in 1936, the Gasthaus had been let to others. In 1958 my grandmother Hildegard Tutz, his daughter, took it back and 

That had been very unusual for that time then. My grandmother had been very hard working all her life trying to menage everything that mattered to her.

In 1975 my grandmother retired and so my mother Waltraud Tutz Gassner  and my father Peter Gassner, who also has been a teacher for40 years, took over the Gasthaus and renovated and rebuilt the house for many years to come.

In the almost 35 years being the owner of the Gasthof Engl my parents worked very hard and only because of their enormous diligence and the will to succeed it was possible that their business did so well and they were also able to buy some of the rotten houses in the close neighbourhood. My father spent his entire life on rebuilding and renovating these houses - without his total commitment this all wouldn’t have been possible.

 

Since 2006 my husband Christian Hofer and myself Christine Gassner Hofer took over from my parents as they retired. Due to all changes in society and the amount of regulations we now don’t have a Gasthaus (bed and breakfast with restaurant) any more, we have a Hotel Garni.

 

We built the white house with the garage and having 4 children we are also constantly busy. The Covidpandemic, the huge problem in finding staff and the very sudden and completely unexpected death of my father Peter Gaßner on July 19th 2022 made/make it not less challenging. Therefore we can honestly say that our life is anything but boring.
